New Refuse Transfer Station

Planning and Consenting

PROJECT OVERVIEW

Haines Planning provided due diligence advice and assisted Stride Property Limited and Waste Management New Zealand Limited with the project formulation, planning and consenting of a new refuse transfer at The Concourse, Henderson.

THE CONTEXT AND CHALLENGE

The site’s location and zoning were ideal for the development of the proposed facility. However, there were a number of complications, including the historic occupation of adjoining esplanade areas, the need for a concurrent subdivision to provide access to neighbouring sites, and negotiating with Auckland Transport and Council regarding the requirement to upgrade the public road. Also inherent in a project of this nature was the need to manage the effects of the development in an environmentally sensitive manner, while meeting the increasingly onerous operational requirements in terms of efficiency and safety of a modern industrial facility.

THE RESULT

Haines Planning adopted a pragmatic and collaborative approach when engaging with the relevant Council staff. The abovementioned issues were dealt with proactively and in a focused manner, which ensured that this technically complex application was granted consent within a very respectable timeframe. In fact, the entire process from commencement of design to the grant of consent took less than seven months.
